SYLVIA NAKAMOTO Obituary

SYLVIA REIKO NAKAMOTO Sylvia Reiko (Suga) Nakamoto lived a full and vibrant life of 93 years. She was born in Honolulu on September 19, 1931 to Mamoru and Shizuko Suga and passed away on March 17, 2025. Sylvia was blessed with three brothers (Alfred, Robert and Theodore) with whom she shared many fond childhood memories. The Suga siblings supported each other and their families throughout their lives. When Sylvia married Megumi on June 25, 1966, she was immediately embraced by the Nakamoto family. Through the years, she maintained a close bond with each of them. Syl grew up in Pawa'a and Kaka'ako, and was an alumna of Maryknoll Schools. In 1967, she moved to Aiea with Megu and their infant son David. She worked at National Mortgage and devoted herself to being a loving wife and mother, supporting Megu and David with their endeavors at work and at school. She enjoyed golfing and traveling to places near and far. When she was younger her trips included golf with the Tanomoshi Gang at courses such as Pinehurst. In her later years she explored international destinations like Japan and Korea. And for over four decades, her regular trips to Las Vegas with her close friends brought her much delight. Syl loved exploring new restaurants, especially those that served Mexican cuisine, pho, and her favorite treat: vanilla ice cream. She was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth in Aiea and was an avid follower of the stock market. She watched Korean dramas, The Voice, CNBC, and Wheel of Fortune, but her greatest joy was spending time with her friends and family. She treasured each moment with them and always found an excuse to get together. Sylvia will be forever loved and missed by husband Megu, son David and daughter-in-law Tina, brother Ted, nieces Velda (Steve), Natalie (Bruce), Alison (Steve), and Pamela (Karl) as well as grandnieces and grandnephews. Also remembering her lovingly are extended Nakamoto family of sister-in-law Anne, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, the Sato 'ohana, and the many friends who filled her days with love and laughter. Please join us on Friday, June 27 at 6:30 pm (visitation starts at 5:30 pm) at Mililani Mortuary in Waipi'o (Mauka Chapel) as we remember Sylvia and celebrate her life.
