TAKUMI IZUNO Obituary

Two lives so entwined, and lived so fully in service to God and the betterment of the human condition, Dr. Takumi Izuno and Mrs. Doris Mieko Sanbei Izuno will be remembered and honored in an inurnment ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday, June 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. In Loving Memory DR. TAKUMI IZUNO MRS. DORIS MIEKO SANBEI IZUNO Pahoa, Hawaii Wahiawa, Hawaii (February 4, 1930 - October 6, 2021) (May 24,1929 - April 26, 2022) From humble beginnings and growing up during the challenges of the Second World War, Takumi and Doris were married on August 8, 1953, shortly after Takumi's return from deployment to Korea with the U.S. Army 511th MIS Company. After Takumi earned a Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota, they settled in Hilo, Hawaii, which was their home base for many years. During their 68-year marriage, they became greatly respected and loved citizens of the world, through Takumi's work in international agriculture development in the United States, Egypt, Pakistan, India, Mexico, Africa, and throughout South and Southeast Asia and Doris's work with schoolchildren as a teacher and librarian at their various postings. Throughout their years overseas, Doris was a partner in Takumi's work, from selecting and counting seeds for field trials in the early years to traveling full time with him in their later postings, always providing guidance and sage counseling. They retired in McAllen, Texas, after 36 years of exemplary service to humanity. Takumi and Doris are survived by their five children (Christine Chieko, Forrest Takumi, Cynthia Toyomi, Nancy Chiemi, and Laurel Emiko), nine grandchildren (Andrew Takumi Barton, Sara Chieko Barton, Amy Keiko Izuno-Garcia, Laura Mieko Beach, Ellen Emiko Izuno, Francesca Yoshiko Macri, Juliana Izuno Thompson, Ryan Fagenson Izuno, and Amanda Izuno Fagenson Kramer), three great-grandchildren (Rylan Takumi Beach, Sloane Eleanor Izuno, and Daniel Takumi Barton), Doris's loving brother, Richard Sanbei, and many nephews and nieces. Your caring, nurturing, teaching, encouragement, support and, above all, love, for all of us for every minute of every day of our lives together was always so special and comforting. We are eternally grateful and are proud to be a part of your legacies.
