TANY SUN HONG and NAOMI HONG Tany and Naomi Hong were married for over 67 years. Tany Sun Hong, born February 24, 1931, Makawao, Maui, died August 23, 2024, Honolulu, Hawai'i (age 93). Naomi Hong, born November 21, 1934, Hilo, Hawai'i, died February 14, 2025, Honolulu, Hawai'i (age 90). A graduate of Waialua High School, Tany served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and thereafter graduated from University of Hawai'i at Manoa (UH), where he met Naomi. On the advice of mentor Bob Oshiro, he decided to go to law school, graduating from the Gonzaga School of Law. He dedicated his life to public service, working as a Deputy Attorney General at the Department of the Attorney General, State of Hawai'i, serving as Director, Department of Regulatory Agencies (now Commerce and Consumer Affairs) and the State Attorney General, and retiring as the Administrative Judge for the State District Courts. After retirement, he and Naomi enjoyed traveling and golfing. He was a member of the Moanalua Golf Club where he enjoyed golfing with his gang every week and at one point had the lowest golf handicap for his age group in the State. A graduate of Roosevelt High School, Naomi obtained her Education degree from UH. She dedicated her life to teaching, spending most of her career and retiring at Wahiawa Elementary School. Former students frequently ran up to her to tell her she was their "favorite" teacher who devised fun teaching games. Naomi was an athlete throughout her life swimming, playing tennis, and golfing, scoring a hole-in-one at Leilehua Golf Course. Tany and Naomi Hong are survived by their children Ted H. S. Hong (Terri Lum), Stan Hong (Joyce), and Lea Hong (Billy Richardson, decd.), and grandchildren Katharine, Noah, and Jennifer. Tany Hong is also survived by his brothers Sedanne Hong (Lynne) and Keong Hong (Frances) and predeceased by his brothers Walter Kim, Frank Kim, and Tai Hong, and sisters Pauline Kim Pahk and Betty Kim Boyer. Naomi Hong is also survived by her brother Larry Kim (Susan, decd.) and sisters June Iida (Mits), Enid Uyehara (Mori), and Alma J. Sadlier (John, decd.), and predeceased by her sister Molly Cook. Both have many nieces and nephews throughout Hawai'i and the mainland. Private services. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to
