Thomas Saruwatari Obituary

THOMAS AKIO SARUWATARI Thomas Akio Saruwatari, 97, formerly of Manoa Valley, a WWII veteran, passed away on July 26, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel. Thomas was a partner of Warren's Repair Service, owner of Sheridan Repair Service, and proprietor of Tommy's Shell Service. He was a Charter Member of the East Manoa Lions Club and a Life Member of Lions Clubs International. Thomas and Mabel were fortunate to travel to most of the popular tourist destinations the world over. He was an avid golfer, sports fan, and University of Hawaii Athletics supporter. Thomas always told everyone that the smartest thing he ever did was getting married to Mabel Tanaka. Their marriage lasted over 70 years. He is survived by his son Eric (Ming Han) Saruwatari; daughters Amy (Lowell) Young, Dr. Lois Saruwatari, Iris (Steven) Sivier, and Anne (Scott) Fong; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Dr. Kenneth Minami and Dr. Christina Bell and their care teams at Kaiser Honolulu, along with the staff at Kalakaua Gardens and Aiea Heights Senior Living for their heartwarming care and support. A public remembrance/celebration of his life will be held at 10:00am, Friday, November 8, 2024 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation will commence at 9:00am. A private inurnment will be held at Punchbowl National Cemetery. The family requests no flowers or koden.
