TIMOTHY PREECE Obituary

TIMOTHY FRANCIS PREECE July 13, 1927 February 14, 2026 Timothy F. Preece, retired 98 year old Chairman and President of Kaiser Development Company of Oakland, CA, and resident of Danville, California from 1966 died on February 14, 2026 in San Ramon, Calif. He was preceded in death in 2004 by his wife Maryanne of 51 years. He was born July 13, 1927 and raised in Waterloo, Iowa. He was the son of Dr. Wade O. Preece of Battle Creek, Nebraska and Waterloo, Iowa, and Mary Molumby Preece of Waukon, Iowa and Volga, Clayton County, Iowa. He graduated from West Waterloo, Iowa High School. He enlisted in the U.S Navy in May 1945 during World War II at age 17 despite having had partially crippling polio. After the Navy, he graduated in 1951 with a B.S. from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Washington, DC, and in 1953, an MBA from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business in Boston. Tim met his wife Maryanne Dunn of Salem, Mass. a Boston orchestra soprano (french/english) and primary school teacher at a wedding reception of his and her mutual college friends. In 1967 he was recruited by Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical of Oakland, CA to the position of International Treasurer. In 1972 he was made Vice President for Control and Administration. In 1981 he was elected Chairman and President of Kaiser Development Company. With Tim Preece's recommendation, the Kaiser Board then decided it could be sold for its proceeds. Consequently, Kaiser Development was marketed nationally and was sold to a partnership of Kemper Insurance of Chicago and Bedford Properties of California. Tim was simultaneously invited by Kemper/Bedford to join them as a Board Director and given responsibility for managing a variety of the diversified businesses for the company. He retired at his request on his 65th birthday in 1991 after his wife became very ill and required his major attention. Tim served as a (uncompensated volunteer) member for nine years 1987-1995 on the Board of the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum. Tim also served without compensation over many years in the following civic positions: *Northern California Vice Chair of the national NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, "National Treasurer of the U.S. President Ford's National Committee on Federal Paperwork Reduction," featured with Tim in Fortune Magazine. "The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame Board, "San Francisco Bay Area Polio Survivors Organization, "Chairman/President of the Oakland Police Activities League (PAL). "Kaiser Aluminum Salaried Retirees Association Board, *Member of the Finance Committee of the Town of Danville, *Contra Costa County Board. *Founding Board Member of the Oakland Convention Center, *President of the Montair Property Owners Board, Danville and *Danville St. Isidore's Church Knights of Columbus and *Danville American Legion Post 246. Tim Preece and his wife Maryanne, before her passing in 2004, are survived by their children and grandchildren: (1) their daughter Cathy Preece Patton and her children Anna and Michael, Michael's spouse Allee and their children Finn and Louis; (2) their daughter Sarah Preece Vinnedge, her son Sean and his spouse April and their son Moses, and Sarah's daughter Tess and spouse Peter, and their daughter Mira and son Rory; (3) their son Thomas Preece and his wife Debra and daughter Elizabeth and spouse Taylor and their two children Magnolia and Oslo, and also daughter Alexandra and spouse Kian. I want to offer my deepest sympathy to the family of Timothy Preece. My connection is that Dr. Preece was the Klinefelter Family doctor for years. In fact, he delivered me in 1954. My Aunt, Helen Klinefelter, worked for Drs. Preece and O'Keefe for many years as their receptionist. While I was in college at UNI, I was asked to pick up your father at the Waterloo airport as Doctor did not want to drive at night. When we arrived, I helped carry in his luggage, Dr. invited me in and we had a great conversation and a drink together.

May the hope from above bring peace and comfort. Eventually, your many happy memories will overcome your feelings of loss.

With deepest sympathy,
Scott Klinefelter

My condolences to the family with Tim's passing. I met Tim when I attended his dad's funeral. Tim's mother, Mary, was my Dad's (Jim Molumby) sister. I did stop by once when I was in the Bay area and we had a nice couple of days together, only a few months after Maryanne had passed away. Tim lived life and worked hard at doing that. I wish his family wonderful memories popping up to remind you of his love.

My sincere condolences on Tim's passing. He was very close to my father, his uncle, James Molumby. I never met Tim but we corresponded b for over 20 years when my dad moved closer to me due to dementia. I wish we had met in person and will miss his correspondence and stories of my dad.
