VALERIE MARGARET SILVA LAU Valerie Margaret Silva Lau, 75, passed away peacefully at home in Kaneohe under Hospice Care on October 9, 2024, with her devoted husband and loving family by her side. She was born in Honolulu on July 21, 1949; her twin brother Vernon following 7 minutes later. She attended St. Patrick School from Kindergarten to 8th Grade, then attended St. Francis High School graduating with the Class of 1967. Valerie was excited to be a Damien Memorial High School Cheerleader and was honored to be voted their Homecoming Queen her senior year. She went on to graduate from Chaminade University. After graduation, Val spent her entire career working for Hawaiian Telephone Company, eventually retiring from Verizon. She was a strong Catholic woman of faith starting with her early years growing up in Pauoa Valley at Blessed Sacrament Church. She participated in many activities including singing in the teen choir directed by Frank DeLima. There she helped create and run the parish summer youth program. She moved to Kaneohe and spent most of her life dedicated to St. Ann Church and School volunteering wherever and whenever she could. She especially enjoyed working with, and tutoring, the young children. Her smiling face and welcoming personality will be missed by everyone who knew her. Valerie was predeceased by her parents, David and Evelyn Silva. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Ronald Lee Hin Lau; his sons, Ronald Lau and Robin (Jade) Lau; grandchildren, Logan (Sarah) Vance, Jacob Lau, Heather (Kegan) McDonald-Barker, Haley McDonald, Hunter Lau, Hayden Lau; great grandchild, Everleigh Bea Vance; Valerie's brothers, Russell (Ann) Silva, Vernon (Terry) Silva, Gene (Yvonne) Silva; and numerous nieces, nephews, and Godchildren. Services will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church located at 46-129 Haiku Road in Kaneohe on Friday, December 20, 2024. Rosary 9am; general visitation 9:30am; Words of Remembrance 10:30am; Mass 11:00am; Inurnment and graveside service will be at 1:00pm at Hawaiian Memorial Park Cemetery.
