VERNA EDDY Obituary

VERNA HALL EDDY Verna Hall Eddy was born in Calgary, Canada, on July 4, 1924. Living in Hawai`i for over 60 years was her dream come true. She passed away September 22, 2024, at the age of 100 in Malone, New York. Growing up on the family farm in Birtle, Manitoba, Canada, Verna was inspired to live in Hawai`i by her uncle who had been to the islands and introduced her to the "Hawaii Calls" radio program. After graduating from Birtle High School, Calgary General Hospital School of Nursing, and Chicago Lying-In Hospital and nursing for two years in Aurora, Illinois, she moved to Hawai`i to work at Kapiolani Maternity Hospital and for a year at the Lana`i plantation hospital. For most of her 40-year nursing career, Verna loved caring for newborns at Castle Memorial Hospital (now Adventist Health). Verna was active with Healing Touch; volunteered with the state's Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program; and was always there for those in need. She loved Hawai`i, long walks on Kailua Beach, and Hawaiian music, especially at Sea Life Park with her friend Grace. Predeceased in 1976 by her husband, Todd Thomas Eddy, and in 2023 by her only child, Philip Lloyd Eddy, Verna is survived by half-brothers John and Mike Hall; Boecker cousins Donald, Sylvia, Cathy, Roberta, Ted; and Hughes nephew/nieces Anne, Josephine, Charles Mackey II. She will be lovingly remembered by many families in Hawai`i, the mainland, and Canada. A private service will be held at Hawaiian Memorial Park Columbarium in Kane`ohe.
