I met Vern when we were both in High school. I just found out that he passed away. Vern touched my life in a good way at an important time during our youth. I remember his intelligence, compassion, sweetness and his wonderful sense of humor mixed with duty toward his family and friends. Vern I still see your laughing eyes and your kind heart.

Dear Vern, Kathy sent me a message today and that´s how I found out that you´ve gone on ahead of us.
You were my first boyfriend and all of my memories of you starting from the night we first met after the `round the island relay´ when you introduced yourself to me and asked me on a date, to attending my first prom (yours at Punahou), and every movie, dinner and beach day thereafter with you (until you left Oahu for college)
I remember having a good time.
You were always a gentleman. You were always engaging. Smart, funny, adorably cocky, and very kind. Thank you for coming into my life in our high school days. May your spirit be flowing in the good ways and in the good places that sweet ones such as yourself transform unto ~*~

I am almost a year late but I was a very good friend in high school. I went to Radford High School. He was supported my running career and helped me break two State records in 1977. Aloha my friend

I saw the notice of Vern's passing in the Punahou Bulletin. I have many fond memories of running together during our high school years and imagine that he was a great personal trainer.
