VERONICA DINIEGA Obituary

VERONICA VERNA GARCIA DINIEGA Veronica "Verna" Garcia Diniega, affectionately known to many as "Popo D," passed away peacefully at her home in Honolulu on September 15, in the care of her daughter, Dr. Leticia "Tish" Diniega, and her furry baby, Meghan. She had been visited regularly by family and friends in the months before her death, and many had celebrated her 101st birthday in 2024. She was born in Kohala on December 21, and had four older siblings: Anselma Aceret, Pedro Garcia, Rosalie Cadiz, and Mary Agpalo. She moved from the Big Island to Oahu in 1959 and worked for the Department of Education for many years, retiring from Aliamanu Intermediate School as a School Administrative Services Assistant (SASA). She joins in heaven her late husband: Cary; her sons: Ronald, Benedict (Carol), and Michael (Darlene); and grandchild: Jonathan. She is survived by her daughter: Leticia; grandchildren: Serina (Abe), Joseph (Robin), William, Matthew, Bekky (Javier), and Rachael (Max); and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at St. Stephen Church (2747 Pali Hwy) on Saturday, October 18: 9:30 a.m. viewing, 11:00 a.m. mass. Burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Hawaiian Memorial Park (Kaneohe). Aloha attire. Remembrances may be made to Catholic Charities Hawaii and Navian Hawaii.
