VOLA MCGWIN Obituary
VOLA LAUA'E KINNEY MCGWIN Vola Laua'e Kinney McGwin, 90, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, in Payson, Utah. She was lovingly cared for by her family and a dedicated nursing and hospice staff until her passing. Vola was one of four children born to Arthur & Leilihaupuaikawai Kinney in 'Ele'ele, Kauai, Territory of Hawai'i. As a child she loved the outdoors, gardening, animals, playing in the streams and bodysurfing in the ocean. After graduating from Kauai High School in 1952, Vola enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. She was eventually stationed at Eglin AFB in Florida where she met and married her first husband. Upon completing their respective assignments, they returned to Honolulu and became the parents of five children. While raising her children, Vola also returned to the workforce where her organizational talents and professional skills led to well-respected positions with Hawaii Escrow and Title, as well as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She also remained active in her community during this time and loved serving as a volunteer at the annual Festival of Trees in Honolulu. She married her second husband, Donald H. McGwin, in 1978. Combining their families was no easy feat but they persevered through their love and devotion to one another and their children. They undertook many adventures during their marriage which included launching her own small-business - a successful flower shop in Laie called 'Flowers by Vola.' Vola enjoyed those years she spent making beautiful arrangements and lei for the surrounding community. Vola and Don were faithful and dedicated members of the church and stalwart examples of service to their family and others throughout their marriage. Vola had a great love of our Heavenly Father, gardening, music, and the holidays which she consistently shared with those around her. She was also a fiercely loyal and dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Although her memory failed her in later years due to dementia - she would always repeatedly say with love that her greatest blessing in life was her family. Vola was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Lei Kinney, her brothers Arthur K. Kinney, Jr. and William Kinney, and her sister Norma Kinney. She was also preceded by her husband Don, her stepson Mike McGwin and grandson Odin Kauhi. Vola is survived by her daughters Kehau Jung and Momi Kauhi, stepdaughters Michelle Seebinger and Laurie Bishaw, sons Wendell, Miles, and Clay Jung, and stepsons Steven, Mike, Rudy, and Steve McGwin. She is also survived by a large number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 45-150 Waikalua Road in Kaneohe on December 10, 2024. Visitation will be at 9:00 am and services will begin at 10:45 am. Private burial to follow at The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
