WALLACE MIYAHIRA Obituary

WALLACE SHIGETO MIYAHIRA Wallace Shigeto Miyahira passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on December 12, 2022 at the age of 90. Wally was born on Maui and grew up in Pearl City, one of nine children of Kamato and Niwa Miyahira. He attended St. Louis High School (Class '50), graduated from the University of Hawaii College of Engineering and served in the United States Air Force as a pilot. As a civil engineer, he spent several years employed by engineering firms in Honolulu. In 1975, he was appointed deputy director of the City and County of Honolulu Department of Public Works and rose to Director and Chief Engineer. In 1983, he joined Castle & Cooke Inc. and subsequently led the Oahu operations as the President. He also served his community - devoting time to the Honolulu Symphony, YMCA, Land Research Foundation, Saint Louis School, Hawaii Society of Engineers, and the Queens Health Systems. Outside of his work and community service, he enjoyed reading about European, Japanese and US history, and traveling internationally with children and friends. He enjoyed playing the ukulele and guitar while singing the songs of old Hawaii, and playing golf weekly with friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Martha, his children and their spouses, Michael and Nadine Miyahira, Ann and Jan Hajnosz, Roy and Candace (deceased) Miyahira, and Nancy Miyahira and David Nicholas, and grandchildren Kelli Miyahira, Stefania Hajnosz Johnson and Phil Johnson and Ian Hajnosz. Private services were held at the Diamond Head Mortuary.

Aloha, Martha, I'm Maryann Boyer's sister-in-law and her POA. I just discovered the lovely card you wrote to Maryann upon Russ's passing. That was back in September 2021. You enclosed a check for $100 to the Parkinson's Association, which was never cashed because Maryann didn't notice it.
I was searching online to find your contact information, only to discover that Wallace had passed away in 2022. I'm so sorry. I read Wallace's biography. What an accomplished person he was, and so well-rounded.
If you wouldn't mind, please send me an email so that I can share some updates about our family. Thank you very much,
Lynda Boyer
