Walter Clarke Obituary

WALTER CLARKE JR. 1956 - 2024 Walter Clarke Jr., "Jr", passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024. A Hawaii resident for over 48 years, Jr was born in Newport Beach, CA. Son of Waltah and Gretchen Clarke, Jr moved to Hawaii as a young man to run his parent's business, "Waltah Clarke's Hawaiian Shops". He eventually became president of the company and presided over 30 retail stores, which were located throughout the Hawaiian Islands and the mainland. Jr attended USC and UC Berkeley where he studied film and sound production. He was a record engineer for Capitol Records, working on recording sessions for many of the greats including Miles Davis and Linda Ronstadt. He founded Hawaii Sportswire, "HSW" which was the first in the nation to provide sports information on demand using telephony and pagers long before the internet. He paved the way for reliable football predictions by developing a sophisticated statistical model from 40 different sources. HSW achieved great success and was still operating up until the last day of his life. He was deeply grateful to all his loyal customers over the years. He is preceded in death by his beloved son Spencer and his sister Heather. He is survived by his daughter Fawn and her husband Eric, his granddaughters Evie and Poppy, his son Richard, and his siblings Rolf, Gretchen Jr., Cameron and Cissy. Jr was well known and loved in his community and his loss will be felt by many. Jr was always true to himself until the very end.
