Wayne Kaya Obituary

WAYNE KAYA We truly miss Wayne Patrick Kaya who passed away on June 24, 2023, after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born on March 17, 1955, in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was predeceased by his parents Masayoshi (Masa) and Mollie Kaya. Wayne had the utmost respect and appreciation for the many doctors and nurses who cared for him and was always kind to his family and friends who supported him every step of the way. Growing up, Wayne participated in and watched many sports, but baseball was his favorite. One of his most memorable achievements was representing Pauoa and winning the PONY League World Series in 1969. When Wayne wasn't cheering for the Boston Red Sox, you could find him fishing, gardening, or taking ukulele lessons from his neighbor. Despite being sick, his passion to learn remained strong. He is survived by his brothers, Francis Michael (Kathleen) Kaya, Adrian (Betty) Kaya, sisters Janyce (Lance) Higa and Daralynne. He was a wonderful uncle to his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who always brought him joy. Wayne passed away in Queens Hospital surrounded by the love of his entire family. A celebration of his life and scattering of his ashes were held privately.
