Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2026, at Henry Ford Hospital – West Bloomfield, surrounded by her children and her significant other by her side. She was 74 years old. Karen Brettrager was born on November 3, 1951, to Lucile Margaret (Gushen) and Edward Jack Brettrager. She was raised with strong family values that shaped her life and her love for others.
Karen was a devoted mother and a proud grandmother who found her greatest joy in her family. She cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren and will be remembered for her loving heart, strength, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Karen's legacy of love lives on through her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A life rooted in faith, with unwavering trust in God. She was known for being fun-loving, adventurous, and strong-willed. She lived daily with joy, kindness, and unconditional love. She worked for several years at Spaulding Machine, where she handled accounting and administrative work for her parents' business. In addition, she worked preparing people's taxes yearly.
Karen had a love of horses and farming. She traveled and worked on farms across the U.S., living in over 20 cities over the years before moving to her home in Burt. While living at her current home and farm, she worked tirelessly, raising 5 children and working in the family business and at the horse farm. She also ran a tack and supply store on the farm. Karen had a deep love of music, dancing, and gathering people to enjoy time together.
Karen is survived by her children: Katie Moore, Brenda (Jason) Kolka, Justin (Renee) Moore, Lacey (Raymond) Haddad and Jennifer Moore, grandchildren: Audriahna Kolka, Callen Kolka, Maci Kolka, Lukas Moore, Zackary Moore, Marina Haddad and Zayn Haddad; siblings: Gary (Dawn) Brettrager, of Alaska, and Linda (Robert) Kwapis; a dear aunt, Marilyn Trombley; nieces and nephews: Sarah (Randy) Downing, Kalli Brettrager, Joel (Lyndsay) Kwapis, and Kayla (Dan) Kryzsko and her loving and devoted partner, Rod Green.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Lucile Brettrager.
FUNERAL SERVICE: A Funeral Liturgy will take place on Friday, February 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1525 S. Washington Ave.,
Saginaw, MI 48601. Rev. Fr. Christopher Coman will officiate. A committal service will take place at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Saginaw.
VISITATION: Family and friends will gather at Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A Vigil Service will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
