PATRICIA HAYS Obituary

PATRICIA CAROL HAYS
Patricia Carol Hays, beloved mother, daughter, and sister, passed away unexpectedly on June 2, 2025, at 69 years of age, surrounded by her family.
Pat was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the old St. Vincent's Hospital to Howard "Luke" Hays and Elsie Marie Ferran on May 20, 1956. She was raised in a military family, living in New Mexico, Japan, and California. After her father retired from the Air Force in 1972, the family returned to New Mexico, where she graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1974. During that time, she was a popular student and cheerleader.
She then attended the College of Santa Fe before transferring to the University of New Mexico, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Community Health. Pat worked for the State of New Mexico, Department of Health, for several years before moving to Virginia and Oklahoma with her husband, Thomas Loyd Moore. While in Oklahoma City, they adopted their son, Thomas "Tomas" Luke Moore, from Guatemala in 2002. The family returned to New Mexico in 2004, and Pat resumed her career with the Department of Health. She retired in June 2018, after more than 29 years of service, to help take care of her parents at their ranch in northern New Mexico.
Pat loved the outdoors. She would go to the mountains whenever possible to smell the air and savor the peaceful environment. She was always eager to help at the ranch-working with cattle, building fences, cleaning the acequia, or tackling whatever other tasks arose. She inherited her mother's passion for animals and adored all the family pets, whether they were dogs, cats, hamsters, horses, or cows. But her greatest love was her family, especially her son, Tomas.
Her other passions in life were flamenco dancing and her Catholic faith, which sustained her for many years.
Pat was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie, on July 1, 2023; her maternal grandparents, Isidore Hipolito Ferran and Marianita Flossie Cortez; and her paternal grandparents, Emit Calvin Hays and Gladys Graves.
She is survived by her son, Tomas; her father, Luke; and her sister, Sharon; as well as many much-loved cousins and friends.

A Rosary will be recited on Monday, July 7, 2025, at 9:00AM, followed by a Mass at 10:00AM at St. Anne's Parish, 511 Alicia Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Interment will follow at Rosario Cemetery, 499 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Pat was so much fun while we were growing up so long ago. I remember times with our parents at the ranch - horses, cows, lots of fun with cousins. Those memories will always be with us. Thomas, Sharon and Uncle Luke, we will miss Pat so much. God bless and keep all of you.
