Albert Matsumoto Obituary

ALBERT YOSHIO MATSUMOTO The "Mayor of Bachelot Street" passed away peacefully at home on February 18, 2024. He was born in Hilo, raised in the Shinmachi community, and graduated from Hilo High School in 1944. Albert served in the Military Intelligence Service of the U.S. Army and attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He was a CPA with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. and retired as the supervisory auditor for the State Department of Accounting and General Services. In his retirement, Albert was a tour conductor for Sus Tomita Travel and Bobby Chinen Tours and led many travelers on adventures in Japan. He enjoyed singing, gardening and caring for his neighborhood. Albert was known for his weekday morning greeting to drivers on Bachelot Street and was featured in several newspaper articles as well as stories on a couple of local news stations. Albert was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans Oahu Chapter No. 1, Honolulu Yamaguchi Kenjinkai and Nuuanu Congregational Church. Albert was predeceased by his wife, Edith Tomiko (Nomura) Matsumoto. He is survived by son Keith T. Matsumoto; daughter Carol Chung; son-in-law Mike Chung; and grandchildren: Keshia Sakamoto-Matsumoto; Mikaela Sakamoto-Matsumoto; Lianne Chung; and Brian Chung. A Celebration of Albert's Life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Nuuanu Congregational Church. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. and the service at 11:00 a.m. Aloha attire.
