First my deepest condolences and sympathy to his wife Jan and his daughters. I was surprised when one of my younger sisters told me that Alex Kaloi had passed away. I didn´t want to believe her until I saw his obituary. He was not only a good friend but an inspirational leader and great person. I knew his parents and his brother very well. I remember during my time at Schofield Barracks playing football with the Base Pop Warner team the Schofield Knights, Alex was playing for the Schofield Redlanders. I used to watch this young boy playing quarterback for his team. I told my coaches Van Gezen and Napoleon that this kid will be a great football player in the future. Not knowing that I would play with him for three years at Leilehua Mules. I tried many times to visit him at his office in Waianae but to no avail. At that time I was in the Marine Corps stationed with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Brigade at Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station. My siblings, nieces and cousins lives in Waianae and would tell me about his senior year at Leilehua under the leadership of Coaches Yoshida, Lolotai, Yoga and Nomura. Again my deepest condolences to wife and family. God bless you all. Jim Kaupe and family. Leilehua Mules, 1968-1972,
CWO3, USMC, Ret. 1972-1994.
