Allan Chun Obituary

I am so sorry to hear about Allan's passing. He was a good man who really helped me during my career at HECO. I am an engineer so I had a good theoretical knowledge but he had a good practical knowledge on how things are done. As a result he helped me many times to ensure that my designs could be constructed in the field. I could always count on him to give me his idea of things. He always gave me a good second opinion.

There was a time when I was on a site visit to my project on the top of the Koolau mountains. My team and I had flown up there on a helicopter. It was really windy and during a gust of wind the helicopter rotor blades hit the tail boom damaging the helicopter. Luckily we had landed when it happened however the helicopter was damaged and could not be flown. Thus we were stranded in the top of the Koolaus. It was near the end of the day and it was windy and cold. The team and I were getting a bit concerned. So I decided to call Allan. He knew a lot of people and called another helicopter company to rescue us. He got us down and safe within about 30 minutes. I will always be indebted to Allan for what he did on that day. There are many other stories I could tell but that was the one I will always remember.

Again I am sorry to hear about his passing. My condolences and prayers to Allan's family.
