ALLAN S.U. LUM Allan S.U. Lum, of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away peacefully at home on January 6, 2025. Allan was born in Honolulu on January 29, 1946. He graduated from Punahou School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a degree from the School of Travel Industry Management, specializing in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He served in the U.S. Air Force before returning to Honolulu and embarking on a lifelong career in hospitality. As a youth, Allan was an avid and successful tennis player; undefeated ILH and State Doubles Champion from 1962-1964. He later took up golf, as it went hand in hand with his tenure at Waialae Country Club. He joined Waialae Country Club as the Clubhouse Manager in 1978 and served as General Manager for 33 years until his retirement in 2014. Allan's love of tennis, golf, food and hospitality nourished his successful tenure at Waialae his dream job in his beloved paradise home. Allan was elected President of the Club Managers Association of America, its first Asian American President, after serving on its Board for over a decade. A cornerstone of his legacy was built on his dedication to continued education and mentoring students of the local CMAA chapter. Allan's generosity and love for family, friends and food was legendary, including memorable dinners at Honolulu's top restaurants, fast food spots and food trucks, and hosting large groups at home. Retiring to his bedroom before guests departed was his signature culmination of a successful evening. Allan was incredibly proud of his family. Husband for 50 years to Betsy, father to Erica (Phil) Martin and Mark, and Papa to Gioia, Tre and Marshmallow. He is survived by sisters Lucille (Bill) Massicot of San Diego and Marilyn (John) Wild of Seattle and predeceased by Carole. Allan's wit and keen sense of humor made him the favorite uncle to countless nieces and nephews as well as brothers-in-law and friends near and far. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 26 at Waialae Country Club at 5pm. In Allan's honor, please consider a donation to the CMAA Aloha State Chapter.
