Amy Takayama Obituary

AMY YAMAUCHI TAKAYAMA 95, died in Honolulu on October 2, 2025, on the same property where she was born. She was an elementary school teacher with the Hawaii Department of Education for more than 35 years, almost all of which were at Jefferson Elementary School. She was at Jefferson Elementary long enough to teach three generations of some families. She had a life-long love of dancing, starting with tap dancing as a child and continuing as an avid ballroom dancer as an adult. She regularly attended classes and enthusiastically participated in the activities of the Aloha Dance Club. As an adult, she also resumed tap dancing, an art in which she truly excelled. She taught tap dancing at Lanakila Community Center and performed with the Steptaculars well into her seventies, a feat that her now seventy-something year old children admire even more now than when they were in the audience. Amy is survived by son Ken Takayama (Diane Kishimoto), daughter Joyce Tom (Clifford) and grandson Matthew Tom. Visitation at 10:00 a.m. on December 13 (Saturday) at Diamond Head Mortuary, 535 18th Avenue, Honolulu. Memorial Service at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements Provided By: Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel
