BERYL OSHIRO Obituary

BERYL ASAKO OSHIRO Beryl Asako Oshiro, 72, of Santa Monica, CA, passed away this January after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was born in Waipahu and grew up in the Ota plantation camp and Waipahu Gardens. A graduate of Waipahu High School and the University of Hawai'i, she went on to obtain a master's degree in dance from UCLA. She began her career as an exercise physiologist at Pritikan Longevity Center and then worked in the cardiac rehabilitation center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for 30 years. Beryl had many varied interests outside of work. She served on the board of her condo's homeowner's association, practiced tai chi, gardening, arts and crafts, origami and needlework. Throughout her life though, her greatest passion was always dance. She was avid about Balkan folk dancing and belonged to several folk dance ensembles. This led to many travel opportunities and lifelong friendships. She also taught dance classes in person and via Zoom. Beryl's last days were in St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, where many friends and neighbors visited her. In her final hours, her dance friends played music and sang to her. She passed on surrounded by those who loved and cherished her. Although petite in stature, Beryl had a large heart. She radiated kindness, caring, positivity and always looked to help others. God must have needed an angel as he whisked her away too soon. Rest in peace, dear "Tiny Dancer." Beryl is survived by brother, Wayne (Cora) Oshiro; sister, Karen Oshiro; niece, Noelani Corrine (Bruce) Jackson; nephew, Kainoa Jackson; auntie, Florence Miyano and uncle, Atlas (Janet) Arakawa. A Celebration of Life will be held on November 15, 2025, Saturday at Mililani Mortuary Makai Chapel. Visitation: 9:00 AM; Services: 10 AM; Burial: 11:30 AM. No monetary donations please.
