Louise Tamashiro Obituary

LOUISE YONEKO TAMASHIRO Louise Yoneko Tamashiro, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026, at the age of 94, surrounded by her family. Born the fifth of six children of Choso and Hisayo Yontanza, Louise grew up in Makiki and attended McKinley High School. When her family moved to Aiea, she transferred to and graduated from Waipahu High School. In high school, Louise met a young man named Walter H. Tamashiro at a Nuuanu YMCA dance and was attracted to his good looks and captivated by his jitterbug dance moves. In a whirlwind romance, he proposed to her when she was still 18 because she was a good catch and he didn't want her to get away. They soon married but waited three years before starting a family. Throughout their married life, they were ballroom dancing partners and travel partners, exploring Japan and other parts of Asia, as well as North America and Europe. Louise was also a devoted wife and mother who played an active role in Walter's business. Louise enjoyed pursuing a variety of personal interests, too. She was a charter member of the Okinawan Genealogical Society of Hawaii and a member of the Hawaii Shuri-Naha Club, Nago Club, Hui Makaala, Hui O Laulima, Hawaii United Okinawa Association, and the karaoke club, Hawaii Kayo Tomo no Kai. Louise is survived by her sons Cyrus and Guy; daughters-in-law, Ann, Leslie, and Lena; grandchildren Kira (Wade) Wakashige, Jenna (Marcus) Choy, Annalyse Tamashiro, Sydney Tamashiro DVM, Emma Tamashiro, Evan Tamashiro; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Walter, her husband of 52 years, and her son, Sean. Her family will have a service of remembrance on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Hosoi Garden Mortuary, with visitation at 5:00 PM and service at 6:00 PM. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
