Bill Sapolu Obituary

BILL SAPOLU Honolulu Police Officer, Musician and retired Army National Guard flight engineer. Bill Mila Sapolu lived life to the fullest and filled each day with love, laughter, and music. Bill passed on August 8, 2023 at the age of 46, after succumbing to injuries suffered while serving as a police officer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. Bill was born in Samoa and came to Hawai`i in 1982. After graduating from Nanakuli High School, he attended the University of Hawai'i. He served 21 years with HPD, most recently and proudly as a solo bike officer. After 4 deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, he retired as a 22 year decorated combat veteran, Hawai'i Army National Guard. Bill started his musical career as a member of the Honolulu Boy Choir, later in life he performed with several bands but found a home with multi Na Hoku Hanohano award winning Motown group "A Touch of Gold." Bill is survived by his high school sweetheart & wife, Christina, and their children Kayla, Karly and Kody, his father Mila, step-mother Florida, sister Fa'ailoa (Tui) Taliauli, and brothers Pasesa (Sharma), Chasid (Nicole), Mila Jr. (Kiana), and Otto. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mati Harder Sapolu. A service celebrating his life will be held at Central Union Church on September 15, 2023. Visitation at 9:00 a.m. Service at 12:00 pm followed by a final salute at HPD Main Station. Burial on September 18, 2023, at 1:00 pm, at the Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
