Daniel Cuban Obituary

DANIEL LOUIS CUBAN Daniel Louis Cuban, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 4, 2024. Born on January 31, 1940 at Queens Hospital, Daniel was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School, Class of 1958. Known for his warm smile, friendly personality, passion for football, and all things sports, he made an impact on all that knew him. He was an outstanding athlete, held many records, and in 1957 was named by The Advertiser as an All-Star quarterback. He retired from his dream job as a Honolulu Police Officer in 1988. He will be deeply missed for his warmth and kindness. He was an inspiration and our hero. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will live in the hearts of those who knew him. Survived by: brothers Herbert and John; sister Jeannie; daughters Lee Ann, Del Marie, Regina Oliver, Patsy Wuollett, Angievi Borges, sons Jon Daniel and Daven; grandchildren Jolie, Eva, Chase Kaniala, Cameron-Dean Kamalei, Ryan Lapolla, Victoria, Ethan, Gerard, Courtney, Ku'uanelaoka'aina, Kainoa, Kaimana and Royals; great-grandchildren Chase Kaniala II, Camille, Brie Lynn, Nyla, Lincoln, Hudson, Dawson, Shaunacey, Zaliah, Zenrok, Zaydan, Zeph, Zivahlee, and Zyan. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary. Visitation 11-12pm, Service at 12:00pm. Uncle Danny was my favorite growing up, he would take us sand boarding, the race track. Once he was off duty, but had his radio on, there was a call, he decided to go, told us to belt up and stay low, he drove so fast it was AWESOME! His last visit to Hawaii I made it a point to tell him how much he meant to me. I love you Uncle.

During our annual visits to Oahu, I remember Uncle Danny taking me, Lee and my brother James to a cemetery where he stopped. He started to tell us a story about a superstition that if you ate pork and drove by this cemetery your car would stop working. Of course, being as young as we were, Uncle Danny tried to start his car and pretended it didn´t work and told us we might have to spend the nite there. We started crying and he says, "Nah...just kidding" . He started the car and we went home. Needless to say, til today, I still believe in this superstition! Love you Uncle Danny. You will be missed . May you rest in peace and say hi to my dad

I have known and worked with Danny while we were in the HPD at Pearl City. He was a fun and likeable individual. He was one of the finest QB in Hawaii HS history at Roosevelt HS. I considered him a good and dear friend and brother!
