Darryl Sevilla Obituary

DARRYL ABELLANIDA SEVILLA Darryl Abellanida Sevilla, 74, of Honolulu, passed away on July 8, 2024. He was born on December 9, 1949 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He graduated from Campbell High School and attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa before being drafted to serve in the military. He was in the US Navy for six years, trained as an electronic technician and assigned to the USS Goldsborough, USS Claude Jones, and the US Naval Astronautics Group DET C at NAVCOMM Station in Wahiawa. Sevilla received a National Defense Service, Vietnam Service Medal with two stars and a Vietnam Campaign Medal. Upon completing training in Oklahoma City, he became an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration at the Honolulu Air Route Control Center for five years and then the Oakland Air Route Traffic Control Center in Fremont, California. Sevilla retired after 27 years as an air traffic controller, supervisor and instructor. He was a consultant for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Ames Research Center at Moffett Field in San Jose for terminal radar approach control; National Aviation Research Institute at San Jose State University, SIMTEL (freeware and software), and Logicon Sterling Federal, the leading global independent software company, as a technical staff member. After returning home, he was an air traffic controller instructor for two years at the Honolulu Control Facility in Hickam Air Force Base. He is survived by his wife Janice (Bergado) Sevilla; daughter Jessica Sevilla; nephews Brandon (Amber) Sevilla; Bryson Sevilla; Christian (April) Sevilla, Dante Sevilla; and nieces Lisa Ann Fisher and Jenna (Blake) Furtado. Interment will be on October 16, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the National Cemetery of the Pacific, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:30 a.m. at the BSide Lounge and Venue, Ward Centre.
