Luana McArthur Obituary

LUANA LETIZIA VENTURA MCARTHUR 63 of Honolulu, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2023, surrounded by family. Born to Robert W. and Letizia P. Ventura, Luana spent her early years living between Hawaii, the mainland and Europe as her father served in the Air Force. In 1968, her father brought the family back home to Hawaii for good, settling in Ewa Beach, where Luana made many lifelong friends. She graduated from Campbell High School and the University of Hawaii. She went on to enjoy a successful career in food and beverage management at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki, and later volunteered at 'Iolani School and worked in the Admissions Office welcoming prospective kindergarten families. Luana was a beautiful woman with an even more beautiful spirit. Her heart was filled with a love that overflowed to bless those around her. Not one to complain, she was full of joy and gratitude, always finding something positive in people and situations. She was patient. She was kind. She loved to do things for others which was evident in her numerous volunteer efforts. Never seeking credit or worried about receiving recognition, she was just happy to do her part, doing what she could to make life a little easier, a little better for those in her community. She put her family and friends first and like most wonderful mothers, her biggest pride and joy came from raising two amazing kids. With Luana, what you saw is what you got, reflecting her true character and nature. Gentle and warm. Faithful. With inner strength and self-control. A joyous smile and a gentle laugh. These are the things that we will remember her for. She will be missed. A loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, Luana was preceded in death by her father Robert Ventura. She is survived by her husband James, daughter Kristen, son Matthew, mother Letizia Ventura, brother Robert Ventura, and sister Claudia Lopez. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Luana's life at St. Alban's Chapel at 'Iolani School on January 20, 2024. Visitation: 3:30 p.m. Service: 4:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. A private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Luana's memory may be made to "'Iolani School KA'I Program," a program that was dear to Luana's heart, and mailed to: 'Iolani School Advancement Office 563 Kamoku St. Honolulu, HI 96826 or online at: https://www.iolani.org/give/make-a-gift. Under "Designated to" select "Other" and type in "The KA'I Programs" to direct funds accordingly. Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC

My deepest condolences to the McArthur and Ventura families for your loss of Luana.

I was a classmate of Luana at JCHS Class of 1978.

Although I did not know Luana at school, I knew her in a way; albeit from afar. She hung out with the smart girls at Campbell; Janice, Brenda, Susan - I believe.

Luana Ventura name stood out for me; a name I will always remember. That name sounded to me like an actress or somebody really important. Luana Ventura. It rang so nicely. I mean her first name alone: Luana - Hawaiian for enjoyment or happiness. Ventura (Portuguese or Spanish origin): Chance, fortune or luck. It reminded me of Ventura CA, a beautiful chill, laid back community ot later that song, Ventura Highway by America.

In the mid 70´s as a teenager, I attended OLPH Catholic Church, Ewa Beach. To get confirmed (give your life to God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit) in the Church, you are required to attend Bible Studies, classes and counseling by the Priest. Our class was made up of teens from the Ewa Beach community and JCHS. After we finished studies, we all attended a retreat at St. Stephen´s Seminary, Kaneohe - that is where I met Luana and her younger brother Robert. I recall Robert was a rascal and very talkative; really fun, cool with an outgoing personality. I think you had braces then. We played volleyball, basketball, hiking and had lunch.

In our conversations and interactions at the retreat, I recall Luana as being articulate, very intelligent, polite, respectful; always smiling and speaking softly. She was a beautiful bright light who brought enjoyment, happiness and love to all who came into her life. That is why she will never be forgotten! She will always be loved. God created Luana Ventura McArthur for this purpose: "To love God with all your mind, spirit and strength. And to love each other as God loves us. "Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever."
Psalms 23:6 NLT
May Jesus Christ mighty love, peace and comfort be with Luana´s families and loved ones! You are with Father God now, Luana. Thank you for coming into our lives. A brother in Jesus Christ, D. Alison
