Dickey Hamasaki Obituary

DICKEY TSURUO HAMASAKI Dickey T. Hamasaki, 91 of Pearl City, Hawaii, peacefully passed away on June 21, 2023 in Honolulu. Born April 27, 1932 in Honokaa, Hawaii to Isamu and Orito Hamasaki. He was the third of five children. After graduating from Kaimuki High School in 1950, he earned his BA degree at the University of Hawaii in Banking & Finance and a 5th year Teaching Certificate. He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Korean War before returning to become an elementary teacher at various Hawaii schools. He then became the school Principal at Koloa Elementary on Kauai from 1963-1965. In 1965 he transferred to the newly constructed Palisades Elementary in Pearl City and was Principal there until 1977. During that time earned his Masters Degree in Education in 1968. In 1977 he became Principal of August Ahrens Elementary in Waipahu, until he retired in 1986. Dickey was an active member of the the Pearl City Community Church where he taught Bible study and sang in the choir. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Japan and eating Japanese food. He loved playing golf and had two hole-in-ones. He is survived by wife, Frances, daughters Carrie (William) Nakamura, Dee Ann (David) Lee, Lynell (Clarke) Bright, his grandchildren Karlee, Zac, Davin, Danielle, Christopher, Timothy and brother, James Hamasaki. A celebration of life will be held at Mililani Memorial Park & Mortuary (Mauka Chapel) on Thursday, October 12, 2023. Visitation 9:30am. Services 10:30am.
