Douglas Kam-Young Obituary

DOUGLAS NYIP CHO KAM-YOUNG Beloved Husband, Dad, Papa and Grandpa, DOUGLAS N.C. KAM-YOUNG, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. A graduate of Kaimuki High School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Doug also served in the U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserves during the Vietnam era. After graduating from UH, Doug spent a few years in accounting positions. However, his passion for 51 years was as an Agent for State Farm Insurance. He enjoyed working with and teaching his staff and felt each of his clients were like family. Helping others with insurance advice, even while a patient in QMC ICU, demonstrated the compassion Doug had for people. A rascal as a youngster, Doug had a great sense of humor and mischievousness which continued throughout his life. He also enjoyed traveling and the cuisine and cultures of so many destinations, especially Italy and Japan. Doug would say he started playing tennis rather late in life, in his 20's. This became a passion for him and he continued to play singles or doubles for another 55 years or avidly watched all the televised matches. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 40 years, Phyllis; his sons Brent (Kimberly) and Gavin; his daughters Jennifer Kam-Young and Melissa (Ryan) Yamaguchi; granddaughters Danielle and Skye Kam-Young; grandson Brennan Yamaguchi; sister Dee Jackson; nieces Ilona (Scott) White and Dina (Gary) Gilliland; great-nephews Josh Caballero, Elijah and Zachary White; great-niece Jasmine Caballero; an aunt and cousins. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 15th at Hawaii Kai Church, 265 Lunalilo Home Road. Visitation begins at 2:30pm and the services at 3:30pm. Attire is colorful Casual or Aloha attire, no suits or solid black, rather in the type of clothing that Doug liked to wear... Please RSVP to Phyllis at [email protected]. A private interment will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary

To the Kam-Young Ohana,
I was one of Doug´s Clients for the last 40 years.i bought my first car and had it insured and never looked to switch. I recently opened my statement and found another name next to My State Farm Agent, and had a sinking feeling. As the post mentioned, Doug was always wonderful and available to assist in my insurance needs. He has great people working with him so, it had been awhile since I spoke to Doug personally.
My condolences to you and family. Doug will be surely missed.
