EDWARD LAKE Obituary

EDWARD D. MICKEY LAKE Edward D. "Mickey" Lake, died on August 11 at the age of 95. He was born in 1928 on Oahu to Edward D. Lake, Sr. and Louise Lilinoe Wery Lake. Raised in Kaimuki with sisters Marian and Patricia, he attended Aliiolani Elementary, Stevenson Intermediate, and Roosevelt High School. After living on the mainland, he settled in Manoa Valley in the 1950s, where daughter Kathy and son Dean were born. He worked for American Tobacco until 1959, when he and best friend Kenny Johnston co-founded Interisland Surf Shop in Kakaako with Dudley Child and Bob Herkes. In 1964, he moved to Kauai as co-owner of the beach concession at the Kauai Surf Hotel. It was on Kalapaki Beach that he met his wife, Bonnie, whom he married in 1967. His children came to live with them in 1968 and daughter Heather was born a few years later. Mickey had a long career with Hawaiian Telephone before retiring in 1992. He enjoyed woodcarving, crossword puzzles, playing slack-key guitar, tennis and exploring the world on his iPad. Soft spoken, he had an eye for beauty, a kolohe sense of humor, a kind heart, and a deep love of Hawaiian culture. He is survived by his wife Bonnie, children Kathy Lake, Dean Lake (Peggy Lake), Heather Lake (Michael Fox) and grandchildren Megan Lake and Lianna England. Per his request no services will be held.
