George Okihiro Obituary

GEORGE OKIHIRO George Okihiro, 96, passed away on December 6, 2025. He was born in Heeia, Oahu on March 11, 1929. George was a proud graduate of the Class of 1947 from Mid-Pacific Institute, followed by the University of Hawaii. He had a decorated career with the U.S. Air Force, and retired as an LTC/0-5. He then began a second career with the Hawaii Dept. of Education as a teacher at Castle High and Registrar at King Intermediate. George was an all-star baseball player in his high school and college days, as well as a standout softball player for Heeia Makule Club and MGI softball teams, playing well into his 70's. Survived by his wife of 73 years Lillian Higuchi Okihiro, son Dr. Glenn Okihiro (Lisa), daughters Lynn Nakagawa (Marvin), Lori Lau (Duane), Julie Park (Michael), and Denise Akamine (Jeffrey); 13 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. The son of Keiichi and Shizue Okihiro, George was pre-deceased by siblings Dr. Michael Okihiro and Helen Sakamoto, and survived by sisters Grace Wilson and Elaine Fujisaka. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 31st at Borthwick Mortuary, Maunakea Chapel. Public visitation 10:00- 11:00am. Service at 11:00am. Private burial will be held at a later date.
