GERALD ROBERT STOTHERS Gerald Robert Stothers passed away at Adventist Health Castle on Oct. 16, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87. Gerry, as he was known to all, was born on Dec. 9, 1935, in San Francisco, California. As a military "brat," his stepdad had several different assignments elsewhere Corpus Christie, Texas; Guam; Millington, Tennessee but his last order brought him and his family to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, in 1954. As a youth, Gerry was active in sports. During his senior year in 1955, he attended Farrington High School and there played football and ran track. Following graduation, he attended the University of Hawaii on an athletic scholarship and was a part of the football team that recorded one of the biggest upsets in school history a 6-0 victory over Nebraska on Sept. 17, 1955. That team, which only sported 25 players, was inducted into the UH Sports Circle of Honor in 2006. Gerry worked at Hawaiian Pine as a summer hire, and followed that up by joining Hawaiian Dredging & Construction. For the next four decades (1957-1997), he labored initially as a roustabout and later as a carpenter foreman. Relying upon his many years of experience in the construction industry, he fi nished his career with the Department of Defense as an engineering technician. He retired in September 2015 at the "young" age of 80. Gerry is survived by his wife, Almarie Stothers, and children Jerry Stothers (Sienna), Malia Ramiro (Sam), Lindsey Stothers (Robyn) and Kanoe Stothers; as well as by brother and sisters Penny Gibson, Joy King, Keith Stothers and Cheryl Manos; grandchildren Kaua, Ho'ola, Jaye, Chase, Kyan, Peyton, Jordan, Kalei, Ihilani, Kawai and Daisy; and great-grandchildren Kyler, Tatum, Kaden, Teagan, Monae and Thalia. Visitation is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1461 Kanapu'u Drive in Kailua, and the service follows at 10. Burial is set for 9 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
