DR. HERBERT ASATO February 27, 1929 February 16, 2025 Dr. Herbert Mitsuo Asato, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 16, 2025, just days before his 96th birthday. Born in Lahaina to Eiki and Masu Asato, Herbert lived a full and meaningful life, touching the hearts of all who knew him with his kindness, wisdom, and playful humor. A dedicated periodontist and Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, Dr. Asato cared deeply for his patients and colleagues. He served as the President of the Hawaii Dental Association and was a longtime volunteer at Castle Hospital, always giving back to the community that meant so much to him. His service extended beyond dentistryhe was a proud Captain in the U.S. Air Force and a member of the Hawaii and Wisconsin Air National Guard. Herbert's love for life extended far beyond his professional achievements. He was an avid gardener, nurturing plants with the same patience and care he showed to people. A passionate traveler, he explored all seven continents, collecting stories and experiences that he loved to share. Golf was another of his great joyshe was a longtime member of the Mid-Pacific Country Club and had the rare distinction of sinking three hole-in-ones over the years. A man of deep faith, Dr. Asato was a devoted parishioner of Saint Anthony's Church since the early 1960s. Family was at the heart of everything he did. He shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Gretchen, after they wed on August 4, 1962. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love and adventure. He was a devoted father to Jeff (Kim), Kelly (Don), Andy (Liesl), and Casey (Mariangela), and a proud grandfather to Anja, Zachary, Olivia, Claire, and Nina. He is also survived by his brothers Yoshinobu (Frances), Hitoshi, David (Sharon), and Richard (Marge), and was predeceased by his siblings Eichi, Sadao, and Myrtle. Dr. Asato's warmth, generosity, and appreciative spirit will be deeply missed but will live on in the many lives he touched. A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate his remarkable life.

Uncle Herbert-as I remember him, was a kind-hearted soul with a smile that reflected his happiness and joyful life. And when he was spoken about by my Mother, Myrtle, his sister, she always expressed her deep respect and proudful heart. So while his presence will always be missed, we mourn his loss, but celebrate heaven´s gain. I love you, Uncle Herbert and see you soon! In Christ Jesus, Leroy (& Nola) Mulleitner

To Gretchen and the entire Asato family. What can I say except that it has been a treasure and a joy to be part of the Asato clan for at least 50 years. I was honored to be asked to be Herb´s `Godmother´
many years ago. He rest in peace, knowing he led a life well lived. Fondest Aloha
