Jane Wakukawa Obituary

JANE TAMIKO WAKUKAWA, TAMI Jane Tamiko Wakukawa, 89, of Honolulu Hawaii, passed peacefully in her sleep on May 29, 2025 at the Kahala Nui skilled nursing unit. Born on November 22, 1935, Jane was the daughter of the late Katsuo and Toyoko Wakukawa. Jane attended the University of Hawaii and served a dedicated career in the Hawaii public school system. She served many years as a classroom elementary school teacher prior to moving into administration. In 1988, under her leadership as principal of Kaala Elementary School in Wahiawa, the school was recognized by the Regan Administration as one of the nation's most innovative programs, and the following year, 1989, she was recognized by the G. Bush administration, being awarded the Distinguished Principles Award. She dedicated her career to improving outcomes for the keiki of Hawaii. Jane will be dearly missed by a large number of family and friends to whom she bestowed, love, laughter and joy. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sister, Rose Takayesu of Carson, CA; and her nieces and nephew Ernest K. Wakukawa of Kaneohe, HI; Eva (Wakukawa) Kishimoto of Blue Ash, OH; Lynne Takayesu of Downey, CA.; Sheila Takayesu of Valencia, CA and Jill (Takayesu) Palomino of McKinney, TX. Honoring her request there will be no memorial or gifts. Just keep her warm in your memories.

I´m sorry to learn of Jane´s passing. We shared the same first name and met at Church in Moanalua . We had shared ministry and had lunches, stories of growing up, shopping trips for over a decade. My condolences to her family! I will miss her and we meet again in Heaven.
