JASON MINAMI Obituary
JASON MASASHI MINAMI After being able to see his sons, close family and multitude of friends, Jason Masashi Minami passed away peacefully on the morning of December 5, 2021, surrounded by his dearly loved wife and mother. He had received the totally unexpected Stage IV metastatic cancer diagnosis a short eleven weeks prior, but remained positive and fought bravely against the pain and exhausting treatments, fully supported by loved ones. Jason was born on February 14, 1974 at Queens Hospital to Maydeen Minami (Niki) and Gerald T Minami (deceased). He began his educational journey at Waiokeola Pre-School, became a Son of Iolani School, and earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in English degrees from University of Hawaii, Manoa. He earned his Juris Doctor from William S. Richardson School of Law. He was well-regarded and appreciated by colleagues at the Judiciary, Department of Human Resources Development, Kamehameha Schools, the legislature, firms and places at which he worked. He also sat on the Board of Directors for the Kaimuki YMCA. To those who knew him, Jason also displayed his expansive skills as an editor, advisor, resident jokester, teammate, chef, party planner, poker player, surfer, skate boarder, music and movie reviewer or go-to sounding board. His friends enjoyed his photos of beach days with his boys or his latest culinary pursuit. Jason was a devoted husband, doting, involved, loving father and a beloved son and brother. He is survived by his wife Theresa and her family, their children Matteo and Nico, his mother, Niki, his sister Traci Domingo (Calvin), their children Ryan and Cassidy, uncles, aunties and cousins, and a circle of friends many of whom he considered family. Though his time with us was far too short, Jason's mischievous sense of humor, keen sense of ironic wit, loyalty and genuinely kind heart, will live on in our hearts. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the unique person that he was and cherish the memories that he left with us. A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Jason on February 22, 2025, at 4:00pm at Iolani School, St. Alban's Chapel. Visitation begins at 4:00pm to 4:30pm with services to follow. All are invited to gather and share their stories, memories and love for Jason as we come together to celebrate his life. Flowers may be dropped off at 2605 La'au Street. Please call 808-943-2205 to confirm flower delivery.
