Joan Kurihara Obituary

Joan Mieko Kurihara May 14, 1945 - January 13, 2024 Joan Mieko Kurihara, 78, of Moanalua, Hawaii, passed away peacefully at her home on January 13, 2024. She was born to the late Ted "Seishi" Kaneda and Helen "Chieko" Wasa on May 14, 1945. After graduating Roosevelt High School, she travelled the world through her work at the United Nations and American Embassy. She came back to Hawaii to work at her family's business, Kaneda's Foods, and as a substitute teacher in the Leeward District. She enjoyed dancing at Bando Classical Dancing, learning Japanese customs and traditions at Tachikawa Girl's School, and Japanese language at Hongwanji and Soto Mission. Joan is survived by her husband, Harold Isao Kurihara, her son, Jay Kurihara, her brother, Alika Kaneda, her nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held in her honor at Hosoi Garden Mortuary on Saturday, March 30, 2024. Visitation at 3 p.m. Services start at 4pm. Address: 30 North Kukui Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96817. Casual attire, flowers accepted, Reception to follow service. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
