John Topliss Obituary

84, born June 9, 1939 of Kailua HI. Passed away peacefully January 6, 2024 after a battle with ALS and the loss of his wife of 51 years, Kathleen.
Survived by his loving daughter Danielle and his devoted son-in-law Kevin, and a host of friends who will treasure his memory.
He graduated Rosevelt H.S. in 1957, attended U.H. and then entered the USAF in 1966. Retired in 1971 as a Captain and pilot. He then then worked for the airlines and the health department until he retired.
He was an avid surfer and active member of the Masons. He loved bocce ball and horseshoes, but his passion was gardening. He was known for his green thumb and having a joke ready for any occasion.
He was a quiet man who will be remembered for his humble and kind generous nature.
There will be a celebration of life ceremony for family and friends to celebrate this special man.

John and I first met at Stevenson Intermediate School. I remember him being challenged to fight by some guy. John didn't back off. The guy decided no to fight. John was a brave guy. Martin McMorrow
