Jose Jandoc Obituary

JOSE JOEBOY Q. JANDOC, JR. Jose Quitilen Jandoc Jr., of Kalihi, affectionately known as "Joeboy," passed away on August 8, 2023. Born on August 25, 1960, he was a lifelong Kalihi resident and graduated from W.R. Farrington High School. Joeboy's hardworking nature shone through early on and at 15 he got his first job as a car wash attendant, later working as a busboy at various restaurants while attending college. He earned an associate degree from Honolulu Community College in air conditioning and refrigeration technology, and shortly afterward he started at PepsiCo as a service technician, a position he would hold for over 20 years. He then joined McCabe Hamilton and Renny as a Longshoreman in 2001, eventually transferring to Matson. A devout Catholic and a lover of music, Joeboy fulfilled both as a guitarist with the music group of Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Church in Kalihi. He also enjoyed karaoke, letting the strength of his voice flow during many sessions with family and friends. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Traveling was another one of Joeboy's passions and he had a special fondness for Las Vegas. A normally soft-spoken and quiet person, he especially treasured the time spent with his loved ones, always ready with a warm smile and conversation. In May 2021, Joeboy was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. Though he fought hard and remained optimistic, Joeboy lost his battle and died peacefully at home at the age of 62. Joeboy is survived by mother Petronila Quitilen Jandoc; siblings Josefina Javonillo, Daniel (Davilynne) Jandoc, Rebecca Jandoc, Jennifer Jandoc, and Isabelle (Antonio Jr.) Sales; nephews and nieces Sean (JulieAnne) Jandoc, Ryan (Isel) Jandoc, Tyler Javonillo, Devin (David) Crockett-Jandoc in Washington, and Sydonie (Adiel) Jandoc-Gonzalez in Florida; and grandnephews and grandnieces Caleb Jandoc, Aiden Jandoc, Chloe Jandoc, Aleah Jandoc, Kairi Jandoc, and Sydiel Gonzalez. He is predeceased by father Jose Purganan Jandoc Sr. and beloved dogs Maka and Kai. Viewing will be from 8:30 to 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 9, at Our Lady of the Mount Church in Kalihi Valley. Service 10:30 AM - 11:00 AM and mass will be from 11:00 AM to noon, with lunch to follow. Burial will be at 2:00 PM at the Valley of the Temples Memorial Park.
