Julia Carter Obituary

JULIA SMITH CARTER, JULIE Julia 'Julie' Smith Carter passed peacefully on January 26th 2024 at the age of 81 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Julie was born in Jefferson City, Tennessee on February 13th 1942, the second child of Lawrence and Edith Smith, and grew up in Rutledge, Tennessee. She received an MSW at the University of Hawai'i and spent the bulk of her career as a college counselor at Mid-Pacific Institute in Honolulu. She was a member of Hawai'i Kai Baptist Church, and then First Presbyterian Church in Honolulu. Julie was a lover of music and a talented sight-reading piano player. Julie was married to Nicholas 'Nick' Albert Carter for 45 years before his passing in June 2019. She is survived by her beloved siblings P. Douglas 'Doug' Smith, Evelyn Ogle and Beth Oldham, her children Kathleen Singleton and Eric Carter, and her grandchildren Olive and Esther Singleton. Julie made a difference in so many peoples' lives, from the students she worked with to the support groups she helped with a church. She was unfailingly kind, gracious, positive, and she had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. I am grateful to have had her as a mentor and friend.
