Kathryn Shioi Obituary

KATHRYN SHIOI In Loving Memory of Kathryn Shioi (Nagatani) (1925 - 2025) Kathryn Shioi filled a century of life with laughter, flavor, and adventure. She passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, at the age of 100. Born in Hilo, Hawai'i, Kathryn grew up with her mother and four beloved sisters, graduating from Hilo High School. She was a wife, mom, grandma, sister, and friend. She was also a weekly volunteer at Kuakini Medical Center for 40 years, contributing over 10,000 hours of volunteer time! Food was Kathryn's love language. From elaborate family dinners to simple desserts, Kathryn believed every celebratory meal should begin with dessert! Her sweet tooth was legendary; she never met a dessert she didn't like, especially if it came with a cup of hot tea or sake. Kathryn began playing mahjong in 1983 and played weekly for 34 years. She could be found at the mahjong table every Friday while surrounded by good friends, good food, and a lot of laughter. Quick-witted and sharp as ever, she played not just to win but to connect with her friends. Kathryn leaves behind two children, one grandchild, and a sister who will forever cherish her memory. Her life reminds us to savor every bite and cherish every moment. A private service was held to celebrate her remarkable life for immediate family members. In lieu of gifts or flowers, the family asks that those who wish to honor Kathryn's memory do so by making a donation to the Hawai'i Food Bank, sharing a good meal, playing a round of mahjong, or treating yourself to your favorite dessert. Just as she would have wanted! Arrangements Provided By: Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary LLC
