KENNETH ALFRED LELLING Kenneth Alfred Lelling was born on September 30, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan. During his childhood, his family moved several times before ultimately returning to Hawai'i in 1954, where Kenneth would spend the remainder of his life. As a young boy, Kenneth was known for his gentle nature and quiet spirit. A childhood friend fondly recalled that he was often rescued from minor mischief by his older brother, Edwarda bond that remained strong throughout their lives. In retirement, the brothers shared long, thoughtful conversations on a wide range of subjects. Both were avid readers who delighted in learning and challenging their minds together. Kenneth studied computer programming and mathematics at the New York Technical Institute of Hawai'i. After working as a unit record operator and a systems programmer on the mainland, he joined forces with his brother Edward and their mother, Lucille, in a family real estate business. Kenneth played a vital role, renovating older homes and managing the financial aspects of the business. Even after the properties were transitioned to Stott Property Management, he remained actively involved in their maintenance and financial oversight. Faith and music were important parts of Kenneth's life. He was involved in the music ministry at Chaminade University's Mystical Rose Oratory and deeply enjoyed sharing music with friends. During visits, close friend Chai Blair often brought his ukulele, filling the room with song and companionship. Kenneth will be remembered for his warm smile, kind demeanor, and soft-spoken voice. He had a quiet way of connecting with others and shared in life with everyone he met. As Chai Blair reflected, "Those precious moments remind me of the importance of family and slowing down to appreciate the simple joys of life." Funeral services for Kenneth will be held on January 27 at Valley of the Temples at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Lelling Family Education Scholarship, C/O The Caregiver Foundation.
