KIRBY SHAW Obituary

KIRBY LAMBERT SHAW In Loving Memory SHAW, Kirby Lambert, a pioneering advocate for disability rights in Hawaii who rebuilt his life after a paralyzing accident at age 17, died on November 22, 2025, in Honolulu. He was 66. Kirby was born in Honolulu and was a graduate of Kalaheo High School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Madeleine; his sister, Melanie Moore; and many nieces and nephews who loved riding on the back of his wheelchair. His parents, Lambert Paul Shaw and Joan Kanani Johnston Shaw, who predeceased him, were devoted to him, especially following his accident. Their love, guidance, and unwavering support were a constant presence in his life, and he often shared how grateful he was to have had such good parents. Kirby was a true kama'aina boy at heart. He loved the ocean, surfing, and enjoyed good food, laughter, and family gatherings. Kirby dedicated his life to advocating for and supporting others in Hawaii's disability community with deep compassion and understanding. He approached every challenge with grace and every person with respect. He leaves a legacy of insight, leadership, and unwavering commitment to advancing the rights of people with disabilities, always with respect and aloha for the community he served. Kirby's life was defined by courage, intellect, kindness, and a quiet strength that inspired all who knew him. He leaves behind a statewide community grateful for his voice, guidance, and advocacy, and countless individuals whose lives were touched by his dedication. A private celebration of Kirby's life will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 2747 Pali Hwy., Honolulu, HI 96817 with a reception to follow at Koolau Ballrooms, 45-550 Kionaole Road, Kaneohe, HI 96744.
