MARIE FUJII Obituary

MARIE PARK FUJII Marie Park Fujii passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025 at age 105. She was born October 21, 1919, in Fairview, Oregon. After her mother died when she was 5, her father moved the family to Eagle, Idaho, where she grew up on a vegetable and fruit farm. She graduated from St. Luke's Nursing School in Boise, Idaho in 1942, and moved to Hawaii. She was an RN at Queen's Hospital, and a public health nurse. In 1947 she married George Mau and was embraced by his large extended Chinese family. They had two children. After earning degrees at the University of Hawaii, she worked as a public school health coordinator, teacher, and administrator. In 1964, George died. Through church, she met and then married Eugene Fujii in 1972. This began a new chapter in Marie's life. After retiring she became a feature writer for The East Honolulu News, ran four marathons and did the Rough Water Swim. In 2011 she published a family memoir. She embraced life fully, was a loving wife, mother, auntie and friend, and had a strong faith. Marie is survived by her children, Valerie (Roger) Vetter, Gregory Mau, and Paola (Phil) Canaday; grandchildren Elena, Jake, and Rebecca; great granddaughter Cora Marie; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Fujii. A Celebration of Life will be held on January 18, 2025: visitation at 9:30 am; service at 10:30am at Manoa Valley Church.

Marie was my favorite foster mother. I really appreciated her energy and how she would try to keep me on track. She stopped a bus and got me from running away from home. Also taking me to work one day. I will forever remember her with appreciation.
