Michael Uechi Obituary

MICHAEL DENNIS SADAO UECHI A dedicated father, grandfather, physician, and friend, Michael passed away peacefully with his family at his side on June 12, 2023 at the age of 79. The oldest of two boys, Michael was a local boy who grew up in Honolulu, and was a member of the very first graduating class of the then-new Dole Middle School in 1958, before graduating from Iolani School in 1961, and then the University of Washington. A forward thinker and true lifelong learner, Michael was always eager to try new things and fresh ideas. As a physician, and in life, he was always willing to help others and found joy in making and developing new and everlasting friendships. After graduating from the University of Washington Medical School, Michael began his urology practice by serving his country in the U.S. Army and later, with the help of his wife and family, embarked on his own private medical practice that would last for nearly 30 years as he cared for hundreds of patients. In retirement, he cherished spending time with his family, gardening, and participating in his passion for ballroom dancing. He could often be seen on the dance floor practicing or performing his favorite dance - the elegant "foxtrot". A loving and devoted grandpa to his two grandsons, Eli and Ellis, Michael will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Trudy, his son, Rob, his daughter, Stephanie Ching (Shawn); his brother, Gordon Uechi (Cheryl), step-mother, Clara, step-brothers Waring Nakamura (Lorene) and Roy Nakamura.
