MITZI AUSTIN Obituary

MITZI CAROLYN LUX AUSTIN Mitzi Carolyn Lux Austin, a retired school teacher at Chester W. Nimitz Elementary School, passed away peacefully on her way to heaven on January 3, 2025. She was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania on November 15, 1930 and was the last of five siblings born to Geza and Bubba Lux. She graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in education and added a masters's degree in early childhood development from the University of Hawaii. She dedicated her career to teaching young children to be kind, loving and excited to learn. She always reminded them of how much God loved them. Prior to teaching, she joined the US Navy where she was commissioned as an officer and served in communications for three years. On November 7, 1953 she married Lt. James Monteith Austin, a Naval aviator. He was the love of her life for 52 years of marriage until he succumbed to cancer. She is survived by three children Lynne Ren?e Austin, Eric Stuart Austin and James Barker Austin II. Grandchildren Alan, Stephen, Dorian, McKenzie and Ryan. Great grandchildren Alexander and James. Catholic Funeral Services will be held at 10am, March 7th at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Aiea. Burial with military honors will follow at 1pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl crater.
