My name is Steven Ross Whipkey,
I didn't know Norman directly. However, as n elementary school student, at Aliamanu Elementary I was a recipient of his tremendous and loving faith in Jesus, through his also faithful, caring, and Sharing wife, Helen, who was my teacher, and first, real Christ witness in my life, as my home room teacher for two years. During that time Mrs. Shimoda, I know now, with the co-partnership of her husband, Norman started a Christian club (under that name), and invited young students, like myself, to attend, meeting at a church behind the school. I am so thankful to Mrs. Shimoda, and her faithful loving husband, who reached out to young howlie kids like me with the love of Christ. Their selfless and loving hearts are greatly responsible, and will be recognized by the Lord for influencing a young kid, me, to eventually become a missionary and pastor to the Asian peoples of Taiwan and China (overseas & many parts of the U.S.) for over 30 years. Norman did not necessarily know me, and Mrs. Shimoda probably does not remember me, however I would like them to know that I am always in their debt, and will for sure be telling them how grateful I am for their faithfulness and unfailing love when we meet again someday in the Kingdom. I love both Norman and you, Mrs. Shimoda, and I am sure very, very sad for your loss. Lord bless you.
