Peter Kealoha Obituary

PETER HENRY KEALOHA Peter Henry Kealoha, 70, passed away on March 27, 2025, a week after emergency surgery. Raised in Waianae and Makaha, he lived in Kaimuki for most of his adult life. Peter retired from the DOE in Special Education, first at Hawaii School for the Deaf and Blind, then at Kaimuki High School in the Alternative Learning Center for 20 years. The work was challenging, but he loved his students and was always happy to see them in the community after they graduated and had families of their own. Peter was involved in the Hawaiian sovereignty movement early on, writing and playing songs of resistance. As his family grew, his activism gave way to spending time with them, but his love of musicplaying the guitar, writing songs, and singingcontinued as he introduced music to his granddaughters, who gave him much joy. Peter is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joanne Kealoha; daughter, Namie (Micah) Wong; son, Ko (Jan) Kealoha; grand- daughters, Addison, Emily, Adrienne, and Lucyn; brothers, William and John Waiamau; and sister, Betty Jean Waiamau. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation from 3:00 p.m., with service at 4:00 p.m. Arrangements Provided By: Hosoi Garden Mortuary
