SHIRLEY MINN Obituary

SHIRLEY ANN MINN October 7, 1928 January 19, 2024 Shirley Ann (Allen) Minn was born on October 7, 1928, in Cottage Grove, Oregon, to Donna and Donnell Allen. She was their only child. Shirley graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1946 and continued her education at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, where she met Albert Minn. During her time at Willamette University, Shirley excelled as a champion archer. She had a love for the mountains and hiking in her younger years and enjoyed reading and learning throughout her life. After graduating, Shirley and Albert got married on June 15, 1950. They both earned their master's degree at the University of Oregon. Shirley taught for two years in Springfield, Oregon, before moving to Lihue, Kauai, where they both taught at Kapaa High School for two years. They settled in Kailua, Oahu, in 1953, raising four children: Donna, Allen, Shelley, and Mele. During the summers, Shirley and Albert ran a private business named Al Minn's Fun Camp, which lasted for 30 years. The camp focused on teaching children citizenship, swimming, surfing, archery, trampoline skills, love for the outdoors, and self-discipline. Shirley's passion for working with youth extended to her involvement with Hawaii Loa College, Aulea Swim Club, and Kailua High School. Shirley was actively involved in the Girl Scouts of America for over 30 years and the Kailua United Methodist Women's Thrift Shop. Shirley and Albert attended several Olympics and visited Japan, China, Korea, Greece, Moscow, and Switzerland. Shirley passed away on January 19, 2024, at the age of 95, preceded in death by her husband Albert in 2017. Shirley and Albert had been married for 67 years. Remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Shirley leaves behind four children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews residing in Hawaii and the mainland. She will be dearly missed. A private family ceremony was held.
