SUSAN MIZUBA Obituary

SUSAN M. MIZUBA AND KIYOTO MIZUBA Susan M. Mizuba Born on January 28, 1928, passed on March 29, 2021 Kiyoto Mizuba Born on July 9, 1928, passed on January 6, 2025 Enjoyed sixty-seven years of togetherness in love, Susan and Kiyoto are eternally embraced by Amida Buddha through the promise of the Nembutsu. Kiyoto, born at 33 Bishop Street, Shinmachi, Hilo and schooled at Hilo Hongwanji Yochien, Kapiolani Elementary School, Hilo Intermediate School, Hilo High School, University of Hawaii Manoa, Fort Benning Officer Candidate School and Michigan State University received certificates of accomplishment, diplomas, a commission and Ph.D. with membership in Phi Kappa Phi. Susan Makizuru born in Koloa, Kauai and schooled at Koloa Elementary School, Mid Pacific Institute, University of Hawaii Manoa, and Michigan State University received ed diplomas and two Masters degrees in reading specialization and supervision. Both contributed to education: Susan as a elementary teacher at Waimea Elementary School on Kauai, Lanai Elementary School, Konawaena Elementary School, Diamon Dale Elementary School in Michigan, Pahala Elementary School, resource teacher of reading and supervisor of practice teachers at University of Hawaii Hilo; Kiyoto as a teacher of English and History at Lanai High School, team leader and small arms instructor at Fort Lewis, teaching principal at Napoopoo and Keakealani Elementary and Intermediate School and Kohala High and Elementary School, Deputy Superintendent and Superintendent of Hawaii District Schools. In retirement both continued their association with education. As members of a curriculum development team, they developed and installed an English language and culture curriculum at Ashiya International University's high school. With that accomplished they shifted their focus to teaching Sunday School at Hilo Hongwanji. They are survived by David, Ann Johnson, Ray (Iris Nakasone), three grandchildren and two great granddaughters. Private service, No Koden, instead please support your religion of education.
