He is survived by his sister Elsie Okumura, wife Hide, children June (George) Lafayette, Jean Okumura, Bruce Okumura (Miyoko), Carol Dinh, 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. As a young man Takeo enlisted in the Army and attended the Military Language School in Monterey, CA. He served as an Interpreter for Japanese prisoners of war from World War II. After returning to Japan and completing his military service obligation, Takeo continued to serve the US Army in a civilian capacity. He worked In Facilities Maintenance operations as both a US Civil Service employee and for a time as a contractor. He worked in Army bases in Yokohama, Zama and Korea. Takeo retired in 1980 and returned to his beloved Hawaii. Being fluent in Japanese, he worked as a chauffeur for Exclusive Limousine for many years, helping to create happy memories of weddings, golf trips and the Aloha spirit. In his free time, Takeo loved playing golf and cherished his time on the course with his buddies. He loved living in Hawaii. Everywhere he went, Takeo touched the lives of people with his generous spirit, positive attitude, sense of humor and common decency. We will miss him.
