Thurston Kawada Obituary

THURSTON HIROSHI KAWADA Thurston Hiroshi Kawada of Pearl City, passed away on January 9, 2025, at the age of 85. Thurston lived a full and meaningful life. He graduated from Iolani School in 1957, later attended Northrup University, and served in the United States Army. Thurston was a devoted husband to Ellen, with whom he shared 57 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and cherished memories. He was predeceased by daughter Lori Lee. He is survived by Kevin (Renee), Nelson (Marol), Thurston Jr. (Diane), 6 grandchildren, Kaitlyn (Brenda), Lance, Isaac, Roree, Robert, and Michael, and many nieces and nephews. A man of many interests. Thurston had a passion for collecting stamps, coins, and sports cards, and he kept a keen eye on the stock market. He also had a lifelong love for Hawaiian music and playing slack key guitar and ukulele throughout his life. In his quieter moments, he found joy in his garden, especially tending to his orchids. His time spent caring for them reflected his patience and appreciation for life's simpler yet beautiful things. Thurston's legacy of love, wisdom, and kindness lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but fondly remembered by all. Thurston has requested no funeral services, and no koden or flowers. His final wish was to be cremated and kept at home with Ellen for one year, then he will be inurned at the family plot in Nuuanu, where he will be reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.
